Creative Network with James Holcombe

  • Somerset Film at the Engine Room 50-52 High Street Bridgwater, TA6 3BL United Kingdom (map)

FREE*

Our guest speaker for March is James Holcombe, he makes films and performances colliding his knowledge of celluloid and it's coming into being, with a healthy disregard for the means by which it does so. Most recently he has found this a useful prism through which to view English public executions, as well as the development and failure of American sound on film technology. James runs the experimental DIY film laboratory in Frome, erehwon: @erehwon_film. He buys and sells vintage film stock, projection equipment and resources via @fromefilm.

Attendees will be able to get involved with 16mm experimental film production activity.

The activity will involve; human interaction, clear loop of film and our Steenbeck. It will be an example of the near instantaneous in 16mm experimental film production as well as the inherent fragility / indexical relationship the technology and the medium has to the body and processes of decay / traces of humanity which is kind of the antithesis of digital.

Join us in person at The Engine Room or watch if after the event on our YouTube channel. The Creative Network is a platform for artists in Somerset to share ideas and work on the last Wednesday of every month. There will be a 45 min discussion along with a Q&A with our guest speaker, followed by a 30 min activity/workshop that you can get involved with in person.

Doors open at 6pm. Creative Network will start at 6.30pm.

*As places are limited there is a £1 deposit taken on booking, refunded on attendance.
