On this one-day workshop for all ages, you’ll work together to make a short documentary film. You’ll develop an idea and find a good story or subject to document get hands on with cameras and microphones, and look at the editing software available. Plus, we’ll signpost you to resources to help further your filmmaking quest.

Somerset Film, supported by Arts Council England, is inviting young artists aged under 20 and living in Somerset to submit ideas for a new piece of sound art.
The successful applicant will receive £300, a further £200 for materials and an exhibition at The Engine Room.

Come and share your views or just listen in, all will be very welcome. This event gives us a chance to talk through ideas for actions at home and in workplaces, and to sketch out an action plan we can get behind in the months to come.
The event is a contribution to the International Day of Climate Action. We have speakers from among others the Green Jobs Alliance, the General Federation of Trades Unions and the Town Council (talking about ‘greening’ the Town Hall) plus film and live music from Theo Simon and Seize the Day friends.

Astrophotography Exhibition by Royal Photographic Society Member Dr Lilian Hobbs.
Lilian Hobbs is a keen amateur astrophotographer who takes images from her garden, which is close to light polluted Southampton. A keen imager, especially since the introduction of CCD cameras, she has been featured on the BBC Sky at Night and has authored some astronomy books.

We are commissioning a young filmmaker to produce an original short film!
Pitch your idea to be made into a short film, this must be a narrative fiction piece i.e. comedy or drama (not documentary). By ‘short’ we mean a maximum of five minutes*. It is free to submit your ideas and you can submit more than one.
