You’ll develop an idea and find a good story or subject to document, get hands-on experience of working with broadcast quality cameras, lenses, lighting and microphones and look at an initial edit with the editing software available. At the end of the day, we’ll signpost you to resources at Somerset Film to help you develop your filmmaking skills.

Join us for our BFI Film Club in Minehead! The BFI Film Club offers high-quality learning about film and wider screen media to aspiring young filmmakers. The Club is led by professional film-makers and is a fantastic opportunity to learn about scriptwriting, cinematography, lighting, video editing and acting.

You’ll be introduced to the basic elements of developing an idea and finding a good story or subject to document, get hands on with cameras and microphones, and we’ll take a quick look at some of the editing software available. Plus, we’ll signpost the next steps and resources available to help you further your film-making quest, find out more.
Scriptwriting Workshop
Discover your inner writing voice, get to know it and uncover ways to use it to generate ideas. Helen Thomson will introduce you to the skills and techniques for scriptwriting and the role of a scriptwriter. Writing activities include creating characters, through which participants will develop a short script.
You don’t have to bring a script with you, but if you do have one please bring it along to discuss with Helen, find out more.
BFI Film Club (12-15 Year Olds)

The BFI Film Club offers high-quality learning about film and wider screen media to aspiring young filmmakers. The Club is led by professional film-makers and is a fantastic opportunity to learn new skills, develop creativity, and engage with the best of world cinema.
Participants will learn exciting skills such as scriptwriting, cinematography, lighting, video editing and acting. There will also be a screening of the final films for friends and family at the Regal Theatre in Minehead. Read more.

Workshop | Actors Self-Tape
Cost: £40
Join us for a one-day workshop to receive hints and tips on producing a self-tape. We’ll spend the morning going through the technical setup of a self-tape and how to effectively act on camera. During the afternoon, you’ll get the chance to film your own self-tape to take away with you. Booking is essential.
